I have been looking at the Tesla 100% electric Model S of late. Our 10 year old Prius is, well 10 years old and has just hit the 100,000 mile mark. Tesla's first car, a Roadster was a two seater and thus a non-starter for families. The Model S however is a 4-door sedan with incredible performance. It has a range of 300 miles (480 km's) on one charge. Based on all of that, last week I decided now was the time to make a move and put down a deposit. Not a day later I was informed that there was a test drive event in Washington Mall and I was invited to take a spin. So today I did just that and it was incredible. I am not a car guy at all. Stats like 0 - 100 in X seconds bore me. But this is different. Completely different.
When you want to revolutionize an industry you can't do it from within. Tesla's founder Elon Musk came from Pay Pal - he founded that too. And he runs a rocket ship company too. As someones said lately, when this bloke dies he can safely say he did it all. Tesla has taken great elements from unrelated industries - Apple's retail stores for example. So rather than going down "Auto alley" to buy a new car, just go to your local shopping mall where you will find a Tesla Dealer. Choosing interior and exterior colours and features are all done online. The touch screen centre console is an oversized iPhone. All touch screen, completely intuitive. The battery technology has been enhanced by cell phone battery technology. And the 100% electric feature is as much about performace as it is about the planet. So this car could have never been imained in Detroit. It had to be located outside of it. Very little of Detroit's old ways are releant to this new way. Today I drove the future and it was (and will be) awesome.

Patient Harper.
Massive centre console control panel. Just pick a planet and off you go.
Plenty of room in the boots (trunks) front and back (for the dead bodies).
