Week two of touch footy at the Forest Hills paddock was a much more comfortable affair thanks to the 7pm kick off and cooler temps. 8 trusty players rocked up: one less Queenslander (thank the Lord above) being replaced by one local, Natalie, a flier in the #14 jersey.
Skill level continues to improve with a lot less hail mary's and a lot more go forward ball and a little bit of jinking and weaving. Shades of Mark Ella circa 1984 and the unbeaten Grand Slam could be seen (OK, you had to look pretty hard) by the classy combinations made up between Tiger Shanks (the 10 year old 150 pounder), Joe Doolan (a ball of muscle and determination) and Rob Doolan the Bris-vegas native powered by a boozy Sunday lunch and too much cheese.
For students of the game, this is a must see.
The bespeckled Henry Hubble ran hard, did good and innovated with some pre-try celebrations. Never seen that before. Natalie has footy in her bones - ran straight, laughing all the way. The Graham-Nye brothers made some good yards, shimmied a bit and generally didn't kill each other which is progress.
Our good friends at Pabst Brewing Company provided their Blue Ribbon product for the after match function refreshments again. Thank you. Hoping our even better friends at Adidas could stump up with jerseys, a stand, a field, a press box - the usual. Hi Antonio, how are you?
Until next week (7pm Sunday at the Forest Hills Elementary School pantheon), adieu.
