With Facebook constantly robbing me of careful thoughts put to paper (it's just so easy to hit share or knock out a one-liner and be done) I've decided to up the level of discipline here and attempt some more insightful observations each week. Here goes my first effort.
It's all about baby.
This week at g, Andi (in our Finance group) had a beautiful baby boy - Austin (see below). There is nothing more exciting at the office than the arrival of a new gBaby. In the six years since we launched, we have welcomed Harper (our son who arrived in a bath, in the office which was also our home at the time), Addison, Keagan, Maggie, Quinny, Lincoln, Sage, Scout and Wren. I'm pretty sure that is the full complement. It always makes me think back to when our first son Fynn arrived 9 years ago and see how he has grown over that time. To see a newborn's tiny feet and hands and imagine what they will achieve in their lifetime. It is such a special time.
Also this week, Kim and I went to LA to attend the premiere of Ricki Lake and Addy Epstein's "More Business of Being Born" which gDiapers sponsored. Photos to come but the movie was fantastic. It is in fact a 4 disc set that will be distributed digitally. The premiere was of the second disc which highlighted celebrity Mums sharing their birth stories. In the west, the process of birth is treated the same way we treat death. It is just unpsoken so I really think this material is invaluable to expectant parents. It is non-preachy and the message is simply about giving parents choice when it comes to how they would like to birth their little ones. Alanis Morisette was absolutely hysterical as was Alyson Hannigan. Also featured was Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Melissa Joan Hart and Leila Ali.Listening to their stories, they are obviously so very different but the common threads are present. Women have been giving birth since the beginning of time and given the right preparation and assuming no hiccups, all Mums can contemplate a wide variety of approaches to birth, not just the one we see on telly all the time. And that's a good thing.
Lastly, as we celebrate gDiapers' 6th birthday this month, we launched our new website - gDiapers.com this week with much fanfare. if nothing else, check out the video (below) It was a fantastic team effort, lead by our Web Czar Mike Dodge. Early feedback has been very positive. In conjunction with the launch of the new site, we have relaunched our own store too so parents can get the latest and greatest g's directly from the source!
