So tonight the Graham-Nye family walked up the road to our local school where an extraordinary thing happens at this time every year... 10,000 swifts heading to Venezuela take a break in Portland. They do circle work above Chapman School leading up to sunset when the Captain pulls the plug and they all dive into the school's smoke stack to avoid nasty prey for the night. It was the most amazing thing to see them fly in formation in a circle and then pile in.
