Getting into nature

Chapmanswifts_sw One of the bigger takeaways from Leo's movie, "The 11th Hour" was the importance of really getting into nature. We talk about "saving the environment" without really understanding that we are a part of it. It seems that we live in a bubble and "nature" is out there somewhere. In fact we are it...

So tonight the Graham-Nye family walked up the road to our local school where an extraordinary thing happens at this time every year... 10,000 swifts heading to Venezuela take a break in Portland. They do circle work above Chapman School leading up to sunset when the Captain pulls the plug and they all dive into the school's smoke stack to avoid nasty prey for the night. It was the most amazing thing to see them fly in formation in a circle and then pile in.
