Great article in this month's Fast Company about the issue of bottled water. Some key data points:
* Bottled water is a $15 billion industry
* Fiji Water produces more than a million bottles a day while more than half the people in Fiji do not have reliable drinking water
* Coke bought Glaceau (Smart Water, Vitamin Water, Water Water) for $4bn last month
* If the water we use at home cost what even cheap bottled water costs, our monthly water bills would run $9,000
* 38 billion water bottles get landfilled every year - $1 billion worth of plastic (which is made with oil)
* In 1976 the average American drank 1.6 gallons of bottled water a year. In 2006, Americans drank 28 gallons.
* Worldwide, 1 billion people have no reliable souce of drinking water; 3,000 children a day die from diseases caught from tainted water
