I thought the "but wait, there's more" pitch on the home shopping channel was a goodie. But the "rebate" has clearly surpassed this. 'How does it work?' I hear you ask. Well, you lob into any store in the US and I mean any store, and you will find that the sticker price is never the real price - such a waste of a perfectly good sticker. The manufacturer offers a "mail-in rebate". So the laptop that is listed at $800 is only $600 after rebate.
You pay the $800 and receive 25 receipts and the laptop. You go home and read the instructions on how to score the rebate. You place every second receipt in descending order, folded origami-style into cranes, face up, in a pure white enveloppe, while facing Mecca. Address the enveloppe using soy based ink and place the 37 cent stamp precisely in the top right hand corner, being sure to precisely line the edge of the stamp up with the edge of the enveloppe. Go to your local church and have divine water sprinkled on said enveloppe and deposit in a north-facing mail box with the address facing up.
Failure to follow any of the above will mean no rebate.
Oh and the rebate takes 60 days minimum so don't be counting on it any day soon.
God bless America.
You think it will never happen to you....and then in the blink of an eyelid, it happens. You work so hard at raising the little ones...shielding their eyes and ears from the uglier side this planet has to offer. The crack houses, the alcohol, the foul language. And just when you think your job is done, they say at the ripe old age of 2, "Me Starbucks now." No. 1 son is clearly a lost cause but there is always hope for No. 2!
